I am a children's book author, scientist, and queer Iranian-American mother of two witty and wonderful kids. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and now live in Woodland, California. I love bugs of all varieties, whether they are six-legged or microscopic. I once spent a summer doing tarantula feedings at the Smithsonian Insect Zoo!
I received my BS in Entomology from the University of California Davis and my doctorate in Microbiology, Virology, and Parasitology from University of Pennsylvania. I am passionate about teaching science and worked for a number of years as a professor before moving to the biotech sector as a research scientist. I like to spend my free time volunteering with the Bohart Museum of Entomology and writing books that make people itch while they read them! Read my full story in the University of California Davis Alumni newsletter. I am represented by the talented Wendi Gu at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates. |
My first children's book 'Please don't bite me!' is now available! Mosquitos, wasps, flies and fleas… Buzzing, biting, and causing irritating lumps on your skin. But what if there is more to these irritating insects than meets the eye This question and more are answered in this book that explores the lives of some of the most irritating buzzing, biting and stinging insects.

Want to hear me rant and rave about how amazing mosquitoes are? Then please join me at one of my upcoming events. I am fortunate on occasion to be joined in these events by the amazing researchers of the UC Davis Bohart Museum.

I love teachers and librarians! Therefore I am sharing FREE 3rd-5th grade school lesson plans complete with activities and worksheets that can be used with (or without) my book.
These materials align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and follow a 5E learning model. They also attempt to provide information for adjustments that can be made to make the materials more accessible to English language learners. |
Educator resources for groups that have (or will be) visited by the UC Davis Bohart Museum of Entomology are now available. Make the most of your insect visit!
